Honda challenges electric car stereotypes with a bold new approach

Discover what sets this electric crossover apart from everything else on the road—unexpected features, bold design choices and a driving experience you won't soon forget

The Honda e:Ny1 stands apart from rivals. Its distinctive character and features make it unique in the world of EVs. Discover what surprises it holds—even for skeptics

In the electric vehicle market, where each new car aims to impress with futuristic design or record-breaking features, the Honda e:Ny1 takes an unexpected route. This crossover doesn’t stand out with aggressive styling and doesn’t make impossible promises. Instead, it offers something different—a calm confidence, advanced technology, and thoughtful engineering that are rarely seen in the EV segment.

Many drivers still view electric cars with skepticism, considering them either as toys for geeks or too complicated for everyday use. However, Honda has long been renowned for its reliability and quality, and the e:Ny1 is no exception. Although the model has been on the roads for a couple of years now, interest in it continues to grow, especially amid rising demand for eco-friendly transport.

Design details

The Honda e:Ny1 measures 4.38 meters in length, making it a direct competitor to models like the Citroën ë-C3 and Opel Frontera. Essentially, it’s the electric sibling of the popular HR-V, but with its own personality. Under the hood, it features an electric motor producing 204 hp (150 kW) and 310 Nm of torque, powered by a 61.9 kWh battery.

The declared driving range is 412 km, but under real conditions, with a consumption of 19.5 kWh per 100 km, the car can cover about 352 km. This is not a record, but it’s a respectable figure for city and suburban trips. However, the charging speed may disappoint those used to lightning-fast solutions: the maximum power is 11 kW for AC and 78 kW for DC charging. It takes 45 minutes to charge the battery from 10 to 80%, which does not make the e:Ny1 a champion of long-distance travel.

Dynamics and Comfort

Unlike many electric competitors, the Honda e:Ny1 doesn’t aim to stun drivers with instant acceleration. Its motor operates smoothly and without abrupt jerks, which will be appreciated by those who prefer a more measured drive. At the same time, it has enough power for confident overtaking even on country roads, aided by its relatively low weight for an electric car—1,752 kg.

The suspension is tuned for a balance between stiffness and comfort: the body stays level in turns, and road bumps are absorbed without unnecessary jarring. The steering is precise, and the brakes are impressively responsive. The cabin remains quiet, while the sound insulation creates a sense of privacy, even in heavy city traffic.

Interior and Ergonomics

Inside, the e:Ny1 greets the driver and passengers with a strict, almost ascetic design. Dark tones dominate, yet the atmosphere doesn’t feel gloomy thanks to modern technology. The centerpiece is a 15-inch vertical display—one of the largest in its class. The menu is intuitive, though some features may take getting used to.

The quality of materials leaves mixed impressions: the plastic on the dashboard falls short of premium standards, and the gear selector takes time to get accustomed to, especially when engaging reverse. Legroom and headroom are sufficient even for tall passengers—up to 1.85 m in height. The absence of a central tunnel and a flat floor allow three people to sit comfortably in the rear row.

Configurations and prices

Honda e:Ny1 is available in two trim levels: Elegance and Advance. The base version is priced at €37,200, while the top version costs €40,200. For this price, buyers get not only a modern electric vehicle but also the confidence in quality for which the Japanese brand is renowned.

In a market crowded with electric car offerings, the Honda e:Ny1 stands out thanks to its individuality. It doesn’t try to be the fastest or offer the longest range, but instead delivers a unique combination of reliability, comfort, and technology. This approach may seem unexpected, but that’s exactly where its strength lies.

Honda is one of the most recognizable Japanese car manufacturers, with a history spanning several decades. The company is known not only for its motorcycles and automobiles, but also for its innovative solutions in hybrid and electric technologies. The e:Ny1 model has become an important milestone in the brand’s development of its electric lineup, reflecting a commitment to sustainability without compromising comfort and quality. This electric crossover is a prime example of how tradition and modern trends can harmoniously coexist in a single vehicle.
