Spanish actress Beatriz Rico is eagerly awaiting the upcoming Christmas holidays. This time is especially meaningful for her, as she will finally be able to reunite with her son Marco, who has been living and working in Amsterdam for two years. Ahead of their long-awaited reunion, the actress admitted that she is literally counting down the days until her son arrives, and that, in her mind, she is already living in December 19—the day he returns to Spain.
“I’m no longer living in the present—I’m completely focused on that Friday when he flies in,” she shared. Marco will spend all the main holidays at home, including Christmas Eve and New Year’s, and will return only on January 4. For Beatriz, this is a priceless opportunity to be together, as, according to her, they haven’t seen each other in many months.
The actress also spoke about the reasons that prompted her son to seek his future abroad. After earning a degree in marketing and advertising, Marco faced the harsh reality of the Spanish job market for young people. One day, he came home and told his mother directly that he was willing to work 8, 10, or even 12 hours a day, but he wanted his work to allow him to live independently. “And he’s right,” says Beatriz. “Here, right after graduating, young professionals are offered long hours for very modest pay.” This is what pushed Marco to look for opportunities outside Spain.
Despite the distance, the bond between mother and son remains very strong. Sometimes Beatriz herself flies to the Netherlands to visit him. “Thanks to him being there, I make this jump from time to time, and Amsterdam has become like a second home to me—I know it inside and out,” she notes with a smile. The actress is openly proud of her son, calling him “a really good guy” who, in her humble opinion, she “doesn’t deserve.”
The actress also enjoys harmony in her personal life. She’s been in a relationship with Rubén for fourteen years, and he fully supports her professional ambitions. “I couldn’t be with someone who didn’t respect my profession. Rubén doesn’t just respect it—he loves it and supports me in everything. We’re a true team,” Rico shared, adding that her partner often helps her with lighting and sound during performances, becoming much more to her than just a partner.
