Madrid will soon become the center of the Spanish film industry once again. On December 13, the IFEMA palace in the capital will host the 31st Forqué Awards ceremony. These awards have long established themselves as one of the key events in the world of cinema, setting the tone for the upcoming awards season. The event aims to shine a spotlight on Spain’s audiovisual sector, recognizing not only feature films but also television series and outstanding acting performances in special categories.
The Egeda Gold Medal deserves special attention, awarded to producers for their contributions to the industry. This year, the honorary award goes to Emma Lustres. Enrique Cerezo, president of the Egeda organization responsible for the awards, noted, “This recognition reflects the important role Emma Lustres has played in the creation of some of the most memorable works in our recent cinema.”
The selection process for nominees began well before the announcement, with open submissions from all interested parties. Afterward, Egeda members cast their votes. In addition, for several years there has been a special ‘Audience Choice Award’ category, allowing the public to have their say. In 2024, the film ‘Casa en Flames’ received this distinction.
This year, the nominations were distributed fairly evenly, though there were clear favorites. The film ‘Sorda’ took the lead with four nominations, making it the most mentioned title on the 2025 list. Close behind are ‘Maspalomas’ and the series ‘Poquita fe’, each with three nominations.

By the way, the Forqué Awards were established in 1996 by EGEDA (the association for the management of audiovisual producers’ rights) to promote the Spanish film industry and recognize the achievements of its contributors. The award is named after José María Forqué, one of the most iconic directors and producers in Spanish cinema history. Not only was he a talented filmmaker, but he was also one of the founders of EGEDA. Over the years, the Forqué Awards have become one of Spain’s most prestigious honors and are often referred to as the “prelude” to the country’s main film award, the Goya.
