This town, nestled among the hills of La Alcarria, has just over a thousand residents and is renowned not only for its peacefulness but also for its rich cultural heritage. Here, Simas tends to his garden, enjoys a slower pace of life, and discovers new local traditions.
The move to Albalate de Zorita gave the artist a chance to step away from constant public attention. During a recent television appearance, he spoke for the first time about his new home and even promised to help popularize the region’s traditional folk dances, though he admits he’s still learning about them himself. According to the latest data, the municipality had a population of 1,146 in 2024.

Albalate de Zorita is located at the foot of the Sierra de Altomira mountain range, which divides the provinces of Guadalajara and Cuenca. Its Gothic façade and Baroque altar are truly impressive. The Chapel of the Holy Cross houses a unique relic—the Cross of Perro, crafted in the 13th century. According to legend, the cross was discovered by a dog named Cosula, who unearthed it from beneath a stone. The relic was visited by Spanish monarchs, including Charles I and Philip III.
The town also boasts two old chapels: one is dedicated to the Virgen de los Remedios and built in the Baroque style, while the other—Cubillas—is located on the cemetery grounds and dates back to the 13th century. Although only ruins remain of the latter, its arched portal and carved beams are considered unique throughout the province. Incidentally, the cemetery is situated on the site of a former Templar monastery, giving it a special atmosphere.
Architectural details
One of the main attractions is the Villa Fountain, also known as the Fountain of Thirteen Jets. Its history dates back to the Renaissance, although its current appearance was acquired in the 17th century. The eastern side is adorned with eight lion heads spouting water, while the western side features three. Despite its name, the fountain now has only eleven jets due to the loss of two during renovations.
Every architectural detail in the city is a reminder of its rich past. Locals carefully preserve traditions and maintain order in the historic quarters, making a stroll through Albalate de Sorita feel like a true journey through time.

At the beginning of February, Albalate de Sorita hosts a festival in honor of San Blas. This event brings together residents and visitors, offering a glimpse into local customs. Traditional treats such as panecillos de caridad and torsios—spiral-shaped pastries reminiscent of doughnuts—are served at the tables. The celebration is accompanied by folk festivities and music, creating a special sense of unity.
