Host Susanna Griso Publicly Accuses Her Aristocrat Friend of Hypocrisy

Double Standards of the Duchess of Alba’s Son: Why Journalist Friend Griso Refused to Stay Silent

A live broadcast of a popular show took an unexpected turn. The host found herself in a difficult situation, having to comment on the actions of someone close to her. Viewers witnessed her genuine emotions.

Susanna Griso, known for her impeccable composure on live television, found herself in a highly delicate situation. On the October 8th broadcast of her program “Espejo público,” the journalist was tasked with commenting on the behavior of Cayetano Martínez de Irujo, with whom she shares a long-standing friendship. The discussion was sparked by the latest cover of “¡Hola!” magazine, which dedicated an extensive feature to the recent wedding of the aristocrat and Bárbara Mirjan. Under normal circumstances, it might not have drawn attention, but it had previously been claimed that the celebration would proceed without exclusive reports for the press. The reality turned out differently: 30 pages and 46 photos providing detailed coverage of the event.

The spark in the studio was lit by Griso’s colleague, Gema López, who brought up this sensitive topic. She recalled the strong statements made by the Duchess of Alba’s son at the entrance to the church. At that time, Cayetano, unable to hide his irritation, lashed out at reporters with accusations. He lamented that for forty years, he had been forced to endure interference in his life, which he compared to “trash.” The aristocrat emphasized that he was neither a member of the royal family nor a politician, and that journalists were simply usurping his private space, turning information into filth and trying to destroy his career.

After these images were shown, Jema Lopez turned to the camera with biting irony, essentially addressing Susanna. “He says he left this world… 30 pages, 46 exclusive photos, including a wedding dress no one has seen. Which world are we talking about? Yours or mine?” she asked rhetorically, tossing the question back into the host’s court. Griso, who was clearly uncomfortable, did not avoid responding. She admitted that her friend’s actions lacked consistency and that his outburst against the press was a big mistake, considering the subsequent publication.

Nevertheless, trying to defend her friend, Susanna, who knows his character well, attempted to clarify what an “exclusive” means today. She explained that it was not about granting exclusive rights to a single publication. According to her, guests at the church ceremony were allowed to freely take photos with their mobile phones and share the material. It was a different matter on the private estate, where the main celebration took place, although even there, as she hinted, she was able to take any pictures she wanted.

The host also suggested that the collaboration with the magazine might have taken another form. “I was told that now there is a new format: the publication doesn’t pay for an exclusive in the usual sense, but covers part of the wedding expenses—such as décor, the banquet, or a musical performance,” she shared as insider information. However, Hema López remained firm. “This has happened many times, but in the end, it’s an exchange. Call it what you will, it’s still called an exclusive,” she replied curtly, leaving Cayetano with no room for excuses.

To lighten the mood, Griso wrapped up the discussion on a warmer, more personal note. With a smile, she recalled how after this public argument, they arrived at the estate where the groom was absolutely happy and beaming. “I must admit, he didn’t even recognize me when I came to congratulate him because of my enormous hat. He looked at me and only realized who I was by my voice. For a moment, I thought I’d crashed the wrong wedding,” the TV presenter said with a laugh. This final touch showed how Susanna Griso tries to maintain a delicate balance between professional duty and personal attachment, reserving the right to friendly—yet still public—criticism.
