Every year on August 16, enthusiasts around the world celebrate International Roller Coaster Day. This date is no coincidence: on this day in 1898, the first roller coaster with a vertical loop was patented. Since then, these attractions have evolved into high-tech adrenaline machines and have become an integral part of leisure culture, giving millions of people vivid memories.
The Spanish capital offers a wide array of options for those looking to mark this day in a special way. Madrid’s theme parks feature around a dozen unique roller coasters, catering to both thrill seekers and families with children. We have compiled a guide to ten rides that will make this day truly unforgettable.
For the bravest, Parque Warner Madrid offers several options. Batman Gotham City Escape is the first in Spain and unique in Europe, equipped with multi-launch technology. Visitors experience a nearly two-minute ride alongside Batman at speeds of up to 104 km/h, with three launches and four inversions at a height of 45 meters. No less impressive is Stunt Fall — a 65-meter-high coaster reaching 115 km/h and delivering a boomerang effect. Superman: Atracción de Acero simulates a flight with the famous superhero: seven inversions and several freefall sections at a height of 55 meters with nothing beneath your feet. Meanwhile, Parque de Atracciones de Madrid offers the Abismo ride, where guests experience a drop from 49 meters at 105 km/h.
Among other notable roller coasters, Coaster Express at Parque Warner stands out as the tallest and longest wooden coaster in Europe. Its 1,250-meter Wild West-themed route features a 45-meter drop and speeds up to 95 km/h, delivering a classic ride experience. In the same park is Shadows of Arkham, located in the Gotham City zone, offering five inversions along a 500-meter track at speeds reaching 83 km/h. Meanwhile, at Parque de Atracciones de Madrid, Tornado deserves attention—a suspended coaster with seats hanging below the rails, propelling passengers at 80 km/h through loops, corkscrews, and a drop from nearly 30 meters.
For families and those new to the world of roller coasters, Madrid’s parks also offer several options. At Parque Warner, you can ride Correcaminos Bip Bip, an attraction based on the famous cartoon. For the youngest visitors, Tom y Jerry Picnic en el Parque is an ideal choice. Meanwhile, at Parque de Atracciones de Madrid, kids will meet characters from the popular animated series on the Patrulla Canina coaster.
