Queen Sofia’s White Triumph at the Princess of Asturias Awards

Fashion Duel in Oviedo: Queen Sofía Gives Queen Letizia a Lesson in Style

The awards in Oviedo drew significant attention. The royal family was once again at the center of focus. Their outfit choices sparked lively debate. One look became a true sensation.

Many were genuinely surprised to see the honorary Queen Sofía named the most stylish guest at the Princess of Asturias Awards ceremony, as she is usually seen in the shadow of other royal family members. Indeed, her look outshone that of Queen Letizia.

It’s hard to say whether it was planned, but the visual contrast was striking. When the royal cars took the family from the Hotel Reconquista to the Campoamor Theatre, the difference became clear to everyone. Queen Letizia, like a modern heroine from a gothic novel, opted for total black and accentuated her grey hair, perhaps following the somber trends set by young European monarchs. Her mother-in-law, on the other hand, was literally radiant.

One can’t help but admire her choice. On a rather gloomy autumn day in Oviedo, against the grey stone of the city’s central streets, Queen Sofía’s appearance was almost miraculous. It seemed she brought her own source of light—not only thanks to her bright, voluminous hair, which perfectly suited the formality of the blue carpet.

The honorary queen opted for an elegant, creamy-white pantsuit adorned with delicate gold embroidery—a flawless choice. While it may not always be visible in photos and videos, it can be assumed that the outfit was made of silk or another textured fabric, adding extra structure and poise to the look. The refined gold embroidery complemented her accessories perfectly: a simple yet radiant white clutch.

Special attention should be paid to the jewelry, for which Queen Sofía has a particular fondness. This time, she favored restraint: a strand of pearls on her neck paired harmoniously with understated stud earrings. The look was finished with a miniature gold brooch and several thin bracelets beside her watch. Completing the ensemble were shoes matching the suit, giving an almost bridal touch.

A comparison with the look chosen by Paloma Rocasolano, Letizia’s mother, comes to mind. In apparent harmony with her daughter, she chose a dark dress, albeit with a youthful silhouette, but the floral print seemed somewhat out of place. Her hairstyle did not win her any points either. However, everyone could appreciate her legs—just as tanned and shapely as her daughter’s famous arms.

Clearly, Queen Sofía is in a completely different league. Here, style is a uniform, and its various interpretations only emphasize its flawless character. This is a space where there is no room for mistakes, as the formula for success has been time-tested. And once again, it was the honorary queen who achieved an undisputed victory.
