Shakira to gather 450,000 fans in Madrid new dates and 12-hour show

Madrid adds three new Shakira concerts in October

Madrid adds more Shakira concerts, now totaling nine, due to high demand. Each event promises a unique format and impressive scale. New dates and organizational details have been announced.

The sharp increase in the number of Shakira’s concerts in Madrid has become one of the most notable events for music fans in Spain. Organizers have decided to add three new dates to the already scheduled performances, directly responding to the ticket sales frenzy. This move not only gives audiences more opportunities to attend but also highlights the growing interest in major music events in the capital.

Now, as part of her European residency, Shakira will perform in Madrid nine times: to the September dates of the 18th, 19th, 20th, 25th, 26th, and 27th, October 2nd, 3rd, and 4th have been added. All concerts will take place at Iberdrola Music (Villaverde), which will be temporarily renamed Macondo Park for the event — a name inspired by Gabriel García Márquez’s novel ‘Cien años de soledad.’ The venue can host 50,000 people a day, bringing the total attendance to 450,000 for the entire period. Despite these impressive numbers, it still falls short of Bad Bunny’s record, who is set to draw 600,000 attendees.

A unique show format

Each Shakira concert will feature a special 12-hour program called ‘Es Latina.’ The event starts at noon and wraps up only at midnight, making it one of the longest musical events in Spain. Along with Shakira’s own performances, attendees can enjoy additional activities spread throughout Macondo Park. According to russpain.com, this format could set a new standard for major music residencies in Europe.

Organizers note that Shakira herself was involved in designing the Macondo Park space. The architectural plan emphasizes mobility: the venue can be assembled and dismantled in just a few weeks. The main arena will accommodate 20,000 people, with an additional 30,000 seats in the stands. This approach is aimed at maximizing comfort and safety for guests.

Ticket Sales and Logistics

Ticket sales are organized in phases to prevent system overload and offer opportunities to different groups of fans. The presale begins on March 25 on the Santander Smusic platform: dates September 25, 26, and 27 will open first, followed by October 2, 3, and 4, and then September 18, 19, and 20. The same scheme will be applied to Live Nation on March 26, as well as to the general sale on March 27. This approach helps evenly distribute buyers and minimize technical issues.

The concert venue is already known for hosting major festivals, including Mad Cool. However, last year the venue became the subject of legal action following complaints about noise during the festival. Organizers are now placing special emphasis on environmental and acoustic issues to prevent similar incidents.

Context and Trends

In recent years, Madrid has become a hub for major music events, attracting global stars and hundreds of thousands of spectators. Large-scale residencies like Shakira’s shows are gaining popularity, and demand for tickets consistently exceeds supply. In 2023, a similar frenzy surrounded concerts by Bad Bunny and Rosalía, with tickets selling out within hours. Organizers are now implementing new sales systems and tightening security measures to meet public expectations and comply with city regulations.

The emergence of temporary concert venues such as Macondo Park reflects a trend toward flexibility and innovation in organizing large-scale events. This approach enables adaptation to various show formats and helps minimize the impact on city infrastructure. In the coming years, the number of such projects is expected to grow, especially in Spain’s major cities.
