The new television week in Spain promises to be eventful, with one of the main intrigues, as always, unfolding during prime time. The team of the hugely popular show ‘El hormiguero,’ led by the ever-present Pablo Motos, is once again ready to compete for viewers’ attention, offering a kaleidoscope of vibrant guests. The studio on Madrid’s Alcalá Street is preparing to welcome celebrities from the worlds of cinema, literature, and music, each bringing exclusive news and ready to take on the show’s signature experiments and challenges.
Kicking off this series of star-studded evenings on Monday, the 29th, is Spanish film icon Carmen Maura. The actress will present her latest project—a chilling thriller titled ‘Vieja Loca,’ which hits theaters on October 10. The film’s plot centers on a man whose ex-girlfriend asks him to look after her elderly mother, Alicia. What initially seems like a simple act of kindness quickly spirals into a living nightmare for the protagonist.
On Tuesday, the 30th, charismatic actor Luis Zahera takes the baton. He will join the studio to talk about his new project—the series ‘Animal,’ which premieres on Netflix on October 3. In this drama, Zahera plays a rural veterinarian from Galicia. His character faces a serious crisis: due to the decline of the countryside, his neighbors and longtime clients can no longer afford to pay for his services, threatening his lifelong work.
Midweek, on October 1, will focus on literature and geopolitics. The guest on the program will be journalist Vicente Vallés, returning to “El hormiguero” to present his highly anticipated novel “La Caza del Ejecutor.” The book is being released the same day. After the tremendous success of his previous work, “Operación Kazán,” Vallés is cementing his reputation as one of the most compelling storytellers of our time, demonstrating a deep understanding of contemporary global affairs. The story opens with the assassination of a high-ranking Russian intelligence officer, orchestrated by the mysterious ‘executioner of traitors.’ This killing is only the first in a series, with the victims all having known too much about a plot that could bring Europe to the brink of war.
Wrapping up the week on Thursday, October 2, will be the appearance of a global star—Latin American singer Gloria Estefan. The Cuban artist will headline the festivities organized by Madrid authorities in honor of Spain’s National Day (Día de la Hispanidad). As part of the cultural program, she will give a large free concert on October 5 at Plaza de Colón in the capital, and during the show, she is expected to share more details about her upcoming performance.
All that remains is to see how the Spanish audience responds to such a powerful lineup of guests—and what trump cards the main competitor, David Broncano with his show “La revuelta” on the leading public channel La 1, has up his sleeve.
