Electric SUV MG S5: 1,441 liters trunk and €6,000 discount — what is the market leader hiding

Impressive cargo space and extended range: MG S5 promises an unexpected driving experience

The electric MG S5, offering up to 480 km of range and a massive trunk, is now available in Spain from €22,340 including all discounts and support programs

The arrival of the MG S5 on the Spanish market has become a real challenge for the usual players in the SUV segment. As new car prices rise and the demand for practicality and efficiency grows ever stronger, this electric crossover offers not just an attractive price, but genuine advantages for families and those who value space. A €6,000 discount and an impressive 1,441-liter trunk make it one of the most appealing deals of the year for anyone seeking a modern, spacious electric vehicle.

In recent years, Chinese brands have virtually captured the attention of buyers in Spain, but MG, despite its British roots, is now associated with an Asian approach to pricing and equipment. Since 2021, the brand has been steadily strengthening its position, offering cars that are not only more affordable than competitors but also packed with the latest technology. Unlike many newcomers, MG has quickly gained trust thanks to its well-thought-out lineup and transparent pricing policy.

Practicality and technology

The MG S5 belongs to the C-SUV class, where competition is especially fierce. Its dimensions—4.48 meters long, 1.85 meters wide, and 1.62 meters high—allow five adults to travel comfortably even on long journeys. The trunk holds 453 liters in standard configuration, expanding to an impressive 1,441 liters with the rear seats folded down. This solution will be appreciated by those who travel often or need to carry large purchases.

Inside, the MG S5 features a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel and a 12.8-inch central multimedia touchscreen. All major functions can be accessed with just one touch, while Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration help drivers stay focused on the road. Even the base Comfort trim includes LED headlights, a rearview camera, navigation, and the full suite of MG Pilot electronic driver aids.

Two engines — two personalities

Buyers can choose between two versions: the first is equipped with a 170 hp electric motor and a 49 kWh battery, offering up to 340 km on a single charge (or 491 km in an urban cycle). The second, more powerful model provides 231 hp, a 64 kWh battery, and a range of up to 480 km (up to 682 km in city driving). Both variants support fast charging: the standard version charges from 10% to 80% in 24 minutes, while the top version does so in 28 minutes—especially important for those who dislike waiting.

The premium Luxury trim adds 18-inch wheels, a 360-degree camera, power tailgate, heated seats and steering wheel, leather upholstery, and a rain sensor. Such a set of options is rarely found in this price segment, once again highlighting MG’s focus on practical solutions for real needs.

Prices and Benefits

The MG S5 in Spain starts at €33,340 for the base Comfort version with a 49 kWh battery. The higher-capacity battery costs €36,840, while the top-tier Luxury trim is priced at €39,340. However, thanks to support programs and discounts — including €3,000 for financing, €3,000 as part of the MG Muevete promotion, €3,375 under Plan Auto+, €1,125 from the Made for Europe initiative, and €500 from Plan CAE — the final price can drop to €22,340 for the base version. This offer is particularly relevant amid growing competition among electric vehicles, where every new player aims to stand out not just with price but with tangible advantages.

Interestingly, this kind of price war has already brought visible changes to the market. For example, the Ebro S400 hybrid recently became a real sensation, as explored in our article on record sales and the new price battle among SUVs. MG S5, in turn, is betting on electrification and spaciousness, which could shift the balance of power in the coming years.

The MG brand today

MG is a brand with a rich history that began in the United Kingdom and now belongs to the Chinese group SAIC Motor. In recent years, the brand has completely reimagined its image, focusing on electric vehicles and affordable prices. In Spain, MG has quickly become the symbol of a smart choice for those seeking modern transport without overpaying. The seven-year warranty and extensive dealer network further strengthen MG’s position in the market, while new models like the S5 prove the brand is ready to compete with the strongest contenders in the segment.
