Menorca, renowned for its turquoise coves and gastronomic delights, is turning a new page in its history by connecting centuries-old artisanal traditions with modern technology. The island, long celebrated for its master shoemakers, is introducing an innovative mobile app. This initiative aims to strengthen local manufacturing’s position on the global market and to introduce a wide audience to the region’s unique heritage.
The new digital tool, called Menorca Shoes, was developed by the Menorca Footwear Manufacturers Association (Asociacion de Fabricantes de Calzado de Menorca, AFCM) and is now available for free download on all mobile devices. The app serves as a convenient interactive guide, helping users easily navigate the world of Menorcan footwear. With it, users can find factories, flagship stores, outlets, and also get information on special offers, factory tours, and events. Each brand’s profile contains a detailed description of its history, values, and current collections. The main goal of the project is to make high-quality, authentic, and eco-friendly products accessible to both tourists and locals, thus promoting conscious consumption and support for local businesses.
The launch of the app is a logical continuation of the strategy initiated in 2024 with the introduction of the Menorca Shoes quality label. This label not only certifies the geographical origin of the products but also guarantees the high quality of the materials used, a predominance of handcrafting, and strict adherence to environmental standards. Today, the association includes 17 brands whose products carry this prestigious mark. Among them are world-renowned names such as Castell, Mascaro, Pons Quintana, Pretty Ballerinas, and Ria Menorca, all of whom successfully combine a long-standing heritage with global trends and contemporary design.
This digital initiative, implemented with the support of the Consell Insular de Menorca, is seen as a significant strategic step toward strengthening the local economy. The project not only demonstrates the island footwear sector’s commitment to tradition and quality, but also offers a sensible and sustainable path for regional development. Now, every visitor and resident of Menorca has the opportunity not just to buy shoes, but to acquire a piece of the island’s history, art, and cultural heritage, literally wearing it on their feet.
