Toyota Surprises Europe: New Electric Crossover at a Record-Low Price

Japanese Challenge Rivals: Toyota C-HR+ 2025 Electric Car Hits the Starting Line

Toyota has unveiled the electric C-HR+ at a price that has stunned the market. The new crossover promises up to 600 km on a single charge. Find out what sets it apart from rivals and why it’s already being called a hit.

Japanese auto giant Toyota has shaken up the European electric vehicle market with the unexpected launch of an all-electric version of its popular C-HR+ crossover. The new model boasts a modern design and impressive technical specifications, but what truly surprised everyone was its starting price—€36,500 for the base model. This move is clearly aimed at seizing the initiative from Chinese and European rivals in the urban electric crossover segment.

In recent years, Toyota has steadily strengthened its position in hybrid technology, but has remained cautious in the pure electric vehicle segment. Now, the company has decided to change its strategy: the C-HR+ becomes the brand’s first mass-market electric car and is immediately one of the most anticipated premieres of 2025.

Design and dimensions

On the outside, the new C-HR+ retains the recognizable features of its predecessor but looks even more striking. The body is styled as a coupe-crossover with aggressive lines, pronounced wheel arches, and modern LED headlights. The vehicle measures 4.52 meters in length with a 2.75-meter wheelbase, and the trunk offers up to 416 liters of space—making this one of the roomiest models in its class.

Inside, the cabin is spacious and finished with premium materials. Attention to detail is evident: a panoramic roof, separate climate control for rear passengers, and a multimedia system with a 14-inch display. Even the base Advance trim includes heated seats, a power-operated tailgate, and keyless entry.

Technical Specifications

Customers will be offered two battery options—57.7 and 77 kWh. Depending on the configuration, the C-HR+ can be either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The most powerful version delivers 320 hp (235 kW) and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.2 seconds. The maximum range is up to 600 km according to the WLTP cycle, putting the newcomer on par with market leaders.

The Advance version is equipped with a 224 hp electric motor and a 77 kWh battery, providing a range of up to 600 km. It accelerates to 100 km/h in 7.4 seconds, with a top speed limited to 160 km/h. For those who value performance and all-wheel drive, the Spirit modification is available: two electric motors, 343 hp, 438 Nm of torque, 0–100 km/h in 5.2 seconds, and a range of 475 km.

Trims and Equipment

The base Advance trim already includes 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, a multimedia system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, dual-zone climate control, a rearview camera, and the Toyota Safety Sense suite. AC charging is supported up to 11 kW.

The top-tier Spirit version adds 20-inch wheels, a JBL audio system, leather interior trim, a Skyview panoramic roof, a 360-degree camera, intelligent parking assistant, and AC charging up to 22 kW. Prices for this variant start at €44,200.

Technology and Innovation

The new C-HR+ features Toyota’s most advanced technologies. The car supports wireless smartphone connectivity and is equipped with two wireless chargers. The multimedia system can be controlled via both touch and physical buttons. All software updates are delivered over-the-air (OTA), allowing owners to always have access to the latest features and improvements.

The safety system includes adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, automatic emergency braking, and blind spot monitoring. The Spirit trim adds pedestrian and cyclist detection, as well as a rear cross-traffic alert system.

Competitors and Strategy

The price reduction of the electric C-HR+ is clearly Toyota’s response to the aggressive expansion of Chinese brands such as BYD and MG, which have already captured a significant share of the European market. The Japanese manufacturer is betting on a combination of reliability, high equipment levels, and affordability to regain leadership in the urban electric crossover segment.

Sales of the new model are expected to start at the end of 2025. Dealers are already seeing heightened interest in the model, and experts predict that the C-HR+ will become one of the best-selling electric vehicles in Europe in the coming years.

In case you didn’t know, Toyota is Japan’s largest car manufacturer and one of the world’s top sellers. The company is renowned for its innovations in hybrid and electric technologies, as well as its high build quality. The C-HR model debuted in 2016 and quickly gained popularity thanks to its distinctive design and reliability. The electric C-HR+ is a natural evolution of the lineup, reflecting the brand’s commitment to eco-friendliness and advanced technology.
