A seemingly ordinary Tuesday, September 30, turned into a real celebration for one resident of the Madrid region. A lottery ticket purchased in the historic town of San Lorenzo de El Escorial unexpectedly earned its owner exactly one million euros. This major win was made possible thanks to the special “El Millón” draw, held exclusively in Spain alongside the main European Euromillones lottery.
The uniqueness of “El Millón” lies in the fact that it is a purely Spanish game of chance. For every ticket purchased in the country, the system automatically assigns a unique alphanumeric code. In each draw, one of these codes is guaranteed to win, awarding its holder one million euros, regardless of the numbers chosen in the main lottery. This time, fortune favored the combination TLQ08400, making someone a millionaire.
And while all eyes were on the capital, luck also smiled on the Basque Country. A ticket validated at one of the shopping centers in Vitoria-Gasteiz matched five main numbers, which corresponds to the third prize category. This brought its owner a substantial amount as well—more than 62,000 euros.
For the main Euromillones draw, the winning numbers of the evening were 3, 8, 15, 17, and 48, with the ‘stars’ being 02 and 08. Since no player in Europe managed to match the full winning combination, the jackpot continues to grow. Next Friday, an impressive jackpot estimated at 29 million euros will be up for grabs.
Euromillones has long ceased to be just a lottery—it’s a transnational phenomenon that began in 2004. Originally launched by Spain, France, and the United Kingdom, the initiative was later joined by other countries, bringing the total number of participants to nine. This international scale allows for the accumulation of massive prize funds, with the maximum amount capped at 250 million euros since 2024. Draws held twice a week continue to give millions of people hope for life-changing fortunes.
