In the very heart of the Iberian kingdom, among endless fields and small villages, real gems are hidden that can completely change your perception of traditional tourism. One such place is found in Valladolid province, in the tiny village of Trigueros del Valle. Here stands a monumental structure whose stone walls have witnessed feudal disputes and the passing of eras, and today have become home to the most incredible creatures born of human imagination.
From Feudal Residence to House of Wonders
This Gothic fortress was built in the 15th century at the behest of a noble couple—Gutierre de Robles and his wife María de Guevara. Their family crests can still be seen above the main entrance. The citadel has preserved its key features: a watchtower with views of the valley, and former stables. But not long ago, the building went through an astonishing transformation. Thanks to the talent and hard work of sculptor Juan Villa, renowned for his work in film and museum exhibitions, the cold stone acquired a new, magical spirit. The master managed to turn the defensive structure into a space where history intertwines with fantasy.
A Journey Through Enchanted Halls
Visitors are invited to explore five themed zones, each with its own unique story. In the dungeon, guests are greeted by a giant winged monster guarding a collection of curiosities and works of art. Its scales shimmer in the dim light, creating an atmosphere of both awe and a hint of trepidation. Next comes the cryptozoology hall, featuring exhibits dedicated to creatures whose existence is not recognized by science. In the cabinet of rarities, magical artifacts gathered from around the world are on display. Meanwhile, in the alchemist’s laboratory, it seems magical potions are still bubbling in flasks and elixirs are being prepared. Every detail here is designed to immerse visitors in an atmosphere of a different, magical reality. The experience culminates at the Tower of Visions, where, according to legend, the restless spirits of the fort’s first owners reside.
Beyond the stone walls
A tour of the exhibition is only part of the experience. The entrance fee is just 6 euros, making this excursion accessible to everyone. The village of Trigueros del Valle itself, home to only about three hundred residents, enchants with its authenticity. It is located within the renowned Cigales wine region, so wine enthusiasts can expand their collection. The traditional architecture with adobe and stone houses, the church of San Miguel Arcángel, and the unique wine cellar district known as “La Fortaleza” all deserve special attention. Additionally, from the hill of Santa María del Castillo, visitors can admire caves carved into the rock and enjoy panoramic views of the Pisuerga River valley. Visiting this place is not merely sightseeing, but a true adventure, offering a chance to connect with history and ignite the imagination.
