The nearly four-kilometer Merón Beach (playa de Merón) is a favorite spot for surfers and for those who enjoy long walks along the water’s edge. Closer to the center are quieter beaches, suitable for family recreation: El Rosal (El Rosal) and La Maza (La Maza). The landscape is also complemented by Oyambre Beach (playa de Oyambre), surrounded by dunes and wetlands, which the city shares with the neighboring municipality of Valdáliga.
The popularity of San Vicente de la Barquera has largely grown thanks to singer David Bustamante, who never forgets his roots. In recognition, locals named the city’s concert hall after him. The artist is closely connected to local traditions. In 2024, he was awarded the honorary title of “Sorropotunero Mayor,” a reference to the city’s main gastronomic dish — sorropotún. This hearty stew of tuna and potatoes is an integral part of local celebrations La Barquera and El Mozucu (La Barquera y El Mozucu).
