Spain Announces 1,349 New High-Paying Civil Service Positions

Major Recruitment Drive in the Public Sector — A Chance for Thousands of Applicants

A large-scale recruitment drive has begun for Spain’s public sector, with 1,349 new positions available across various fields. Competition is fierce, but many still have a chance.

At the end of November 2025, Spain launched one of the largest public sector recruitment campaigns in recent years. The country’s official bulletin announced 191 new competitive examinations, opening up 1,349 positions for those seeking to become civil servants or permanent employees. These opportunities added to ongoing competitions, significantly increasing the number of available posts.

Job opportunities have opened up in central, regional, and municipal government offices. The vacancies are aimed at specialists with varying levels of education and experience, as well as those just starting their careers. Authorities note that demand for new personnel has increased due to a wave of retirements and the effects of the pandemic, which have accelerated workforce renewal.

Public sector

This year, special attention is being given to the Ministry of Defense, where dozens of positions have been created for civilian specialists. Unlike traditional military recruitment, these openings are for dentists, healthcare specialists, IT experts, nurses, and other technical staff. For example, there are 4 positions for dentists, 47 for healthcare specialists, 3 for IT professionals, and 6 for nurses. There are also roles available for researchers, laboratory technicians, and managers.

Most of these positions offer permanent employment with opportunities for career growth, a stable salary, and additional benefits. For many candidates, this is a chance not only for guaranteed employment but also for advancement within the system.

In-demand sectors

Among the most popular fields is group C2—positions that do not require a university degree. A high school diploma or basic vocational training is sufficient. These vacancies are traditionally in demand as they offer a path to stable employment without the need for extended higher education.

The largest competitive selection this week is the recruitment of 254 administrative assistants for the Aragón Health Service. Of these, 218 positions are for the general competition, 26 for people with general disabilities, and 10 for candidates with intellectual disabilities. Applications are open until December 17, 2025, with detailed requirements published in the region’s official bulletin.

Medical vacancies

Significant opportunities have also emerged within regional institutions. The Balearic Islands Health Service has announced the recruitment of 103 general practitioners for primary care positions. Of these, 86 are open to all candidates, 10 are reserved for internal promotion, and 7 are dedicated to specialists with intellectual disabilities. Applicants must hold a medical degree and a specialization in family medicine. Applications will be accepted until December 16, 2025.

Job openings for specialists

At the national level, the Ministry of Internal Affairs has opened 50 positions for senior technical specialists in penitentiary institutions. Forty of these positions are available through open competition, and ten are reserved for people with disabilities. Depending on the chosen specialization, applicants must have a degree in law or psychology. Applications are open until December 15.

Temporary employment

In addition to permanent roles, several new temporary openings for civil servants have been announced this month. These positions provide valuable experience and extra points for future competitions. Opportunities include teaching and research positions at Universidad de Jaén, public relations specialists in the Valencian parliament, environmental protection experts with the Valencian government, and administrative staff in the digital transformation department of Castilla y León. Application deadlines vary, but most competitions are open until December 2025.

These temporary positions often serve as a springboard for a future career in the public sector. Selected candidates gain an advantage when applying for future openings for permanent positions.
