In Adamuz, where one of the most tragic train disasters in recent years occurred just days ago, rescuers have found another body among the wreckage of the Alvia train cars. The official death toll now stands at 43. Despite this, the search continues: two people are still missing, and relatives are still holding out hope for a miracle.
The situation at the scene remains tense. More than 400 specialists—including rescuers, medical staff, and forensic experts—have not left the disaster area for a moment. The operation is complicated by the intricate structure of the train cars and the need to carefully dismantle the wreckage so as not to damage possible evidence or miss any chance of finding the missing.
Search efforts continue
Over the past 24 hours, specialists have focused on clearing the second car, where the dining car was located. Experts believe several passengers may have been here at the time of the collision. The first car and part of the second have now been fully dismantled, and the eighth Iryo train car has been loaded onto a special platform to be removed from the site of the tragedy.
Meanwhile, the identification of the victims is ongoing. So far, the identities of 41 people have been confirmed. Relatives are informed of the results as the examinations are completed. In total, families have filed 45 reports of missing persons who may have been on board the Alvia and Iryo trains at the time of the accident.
The situation in hospitals
Thirty-seven victims remain hospitalized in Andalucía, including four children. Nine patients are still in intensive care units, most of them in Córdoba hospitals. The rest are being treated in regular wards; their condition is described as stable but serious. No new discharges were reported in the past day, underscoring the severity of the injuries caused by the disaster.
Doctors and psychologists are assisting not only the victims but also the families of those affected. A special information center has been set up for relatives, providing the latest updates on the search operation and the condition of their loved ones. The waiting room is tense, as people await news that could change their lives forever.
Clearing the Debris
Debris removal efforts are ongoing around the clock. Rescuers are using heavy machinery to shift wreckage, but in the most difficult areas, work must be done by hand. Special attention is being paid to the second carriage, where, according to preliminary information, two people may still be missing. Every piece of debris is carefully examined to avoid overlooking any evidence that could shed light on the circumstances of the tragedy.
Authorities emphasize that search efforts will not stop until all the missing are found. At the same time, preparations are underway to remove the remaining Iryo carriages, which are still on the tracks. These are expected to be transported away in the coming days to clear the site for further operations and investigations.
Waiting and Anxiety
A mood of anxiety and anticipation prevails in Adamuce. Each new day brings hope of finding someone else among the missing, but also fear of another tragic discovery. Relatives of the deceased and those still missing remain at the temporary support center, where they receive all the assistance they need.
The situation remains extremely difficult. Despite the efforts of hundreds of specialists, the fate of two people is still unknown. Authorities have pledged to continue the search until this tragic story is brought to a close. But for many families, time seems to have stopped—they wait for an answer that could be final.
