An incident that alarmed local residents occurred on Sunday evening in Torredelcampo (Jaén province). A twelve-year-old boy fell into a well on the grounds of a building under construction. The accident happened at around half past eight in the evening, when a group of teenagers was at the site and one of them suddenly fell down.
Police officers, firefighters, and paramedics quickly arrived at the scene. The rescue operation lasted several minutes and required coordinated efforts from all services. The boy was brought to the surface, but sustained abrasions, is suspected to have a fractured wrist, and showed signs of hypothermia.
The victim was immediately taken to the children’s ward at the hospital in Jaén. Doctors assess his condition as stable and say there is no threat to his life. After the incident, the well was covered with a metal plate to prevent similar situations in the future.
Local residents note that the construction site has long attracted the attention of teenagers, and now the issue of additional safety measures for such sites is being discussed. City authorities have promised to inspect all open construction sites in the area.
