Carlos Mazón Strengthens Position in Valencian Government Until 2027

Mazón to Remain in Power Until 2027: Who Will Join the New Valencia Government

The Valencian Community is preparing for personnel changes. Carlos Mazón aims to consolidate his position and bring in new party members. Reshuffles are expected in key ministries and political maneuvering is underway.

A new stage is beginning in the political life of the Valencian Community: Carlos Mazón, who has led the region since 2023, has decided not only to remain in charge until 2027, but also to launch a major reshuffle within the government. His aim is to build the most resilient team possible, capable of withstanding pressure and ensuring stability until the next elections.

With the onset of autumn, Mazón announced his intention to renew his team of advisers. In the coming months, new faces from among experienced party allies will join the government. This move is expected to strengthen the regional leader’s position and reduce the risk of political upheaval, which has arisen more than once over the past two years.

Key figures are in the spotlight, such as Susana Camarero, who serves as first vice president and official government spokesperson, along with Miguel Barrachina, responsible for agriculture. Special focus in Mazón’s plans is given to Vicente Martínez Mus, who oversees environmental and infrastructure issues. He is being considered as a possible candidate for a new post linked to regional recovery after natural disasters.

The main wave of reshuffles is expected in November. Among the possible changes is the replacement of the head of the economic sector, currently occupied by Ruth Merino. Since joining Mazón’s team, she has gradually lost influence, and now her future in the government is uncertain. The fate of José Antonio Rovira, responsible for education and culture, is also being discussed: it is possible he may change his area of work or even leave the cabinet altogether.

Unlike previous crises, the current changes are distinctly political in nature. Mazón is focusing on strengthening the position of the Partido Popular in the region to minimize reliance on coalition partners. However, without Vox support, it will be difficult to pass the 2026 budget, and members of that party have already hinted at the possible extension of the current financial plans.

The situation is complicated by internal disagreements: former regional head Francisco Camps intends to compete for party leadership, causing concern among the current leadership. Camps is actively gathering supporters, and his meetings in various cities across the region are attracting an increasing number of people who feel excluded from the decision-making process.

At the same time, Mazon is facing questions about his actions during last year’s disaster, when heavy rains caused widespread flooding. New details emerging from the investigation are once again casting doubt on the official versions of events. Nevertheless, the head of the region is trying to focus on recovery efforts and launching new support programs for the affected areas.

Polls indicate that opinions on Mazon’s performance remain mixed. While the People’s Party maintains its lead, the gap between political blocs is narrowing. The question of who will be the candidate in the next election is still open, and much will depend on internal party dynamics and public opinion.
