Carlota Casiraghi, known for her passion for philosophy and literature, is experiencing a vibrant new chapter in her life. Following her split from film producer Dimitri Rassam, she has found happiness with Nicolas Mathieu, the French writer and prestigious Goncourt Prize laureate. This relationship appears to have inspired the princess creatively, prompting her to take an important professional step.
The granddaughter of Prince Rainier III and the legendary Grace Kelly, long considered the most intellectual of Princess Caroline’s children, is preparing to unveil her first solo book to the world. Titled “La grita,” the work is set for release in early 2025. It’s not simply a memoir or confession, but a profound literary and emotional exploration dedicated to the concept of “cracks” and “fractures” in people’s destinies and creative journeys. The book promises to be a journey through the inner worlds of remarkable personalities who have left their mark on history.
For her debut, Casiraghi has chosen an eclectic company of protagonists. Within its pages, readers encounter such diverse figures as sailor Bernard Moitessier, writers Ingeborg Bachmann, Colette, Marguerite Duras, poet Anna Akhmatova, and even American musician JJ Cale. This selection highlights the breadth of the author’s perspective and her interest in people from vastly different backgrounds and eras. Publishers emphasize that the book consists of a series of reflections on a single theme, with the main idea recurring like a refrain in a musical piece.
This project is a natural continuation of Carlotta’s longstanding passion for the humanities. She is the founder and president of the ‘Philosophical Meetings of Monaco’ and has shared a love of reading with her mother since her youth. She has previously ventured into literature, publishing the book ‘Archipelago of Passions’ co-authored with her former teacher, Robert Maggiori. Her new work is the result of many months of personal reflection and creative exploration.
The princess’s interests go far beyond literature. Several years ago, while still married to Rassam, she produced her first film, ‘Notre-Dame du Nil.’ The film, based on the novel of the same name, tells the story of girls at an elite boarding school in 1970s Rwanda on the eve of the horrific events of the genocide. The film was warmly received by critics and was featured at the Toronto Film Festival.
Carlotta has always been surrounded by people of remarkable intellect. Her current partner, Nicolas Mathieu, comes from a modest background and has achieved literary acclaim in France through hard work. Their union is more than just a romantic story—it’s the meeting of two like-minded individuals for whom creativity and intellectual exploration are an essential part of life.
