Cortylandia in Madrid Turns 47: The Christmas Express Returns to Calle Preciados

The Cortylandia Christmas show returns to central Madrid—Don't miss this magical holiday adventure

Cortylandia brings festive magic back to central Madrid this December. The vibrant show on Calle Preciados runs until January 5. Dive into the holiday atmosphere and music with your children.

As the winter holidays approach, Madrid takes on a special atmosphere: shop windows sparkle with lights, and the streets are adorned with garlands. This year, the capital’s traditional decorations once again feature Cortylandia—the famous holiday show that has delighted residents and visitors for nearly half a century. From November 22 through January 5, the façade of El Corte Inglés on Preciados Street transforms into a stage for a vibrant performance, where music, animation, and fairy-tale characters create true magic for the whole family.

Cortylandia’s story began in 1979, when moving figures and festive decorations first appeared on the store’s façade. Since then, the event has become an essential part of Madrid’s winter calendar. Each year, organizers come up with a new theme to surprise the audience. In 2025, visitors can embark on a journey aboard the Cortylandia Express—a festive train setting off on an enchanting adventure together with over 25 characters. Colorful sets, dynamic scenes, and memorable melodies make the show a truly unforgettable experience for children and adults.

Shows run daily so everyone can choose a convenient time to visit. Morning sessions begin at 12:00, 13:00, and 14:00, and evening performances take place at 17:00, 18:00, 19:00, 20:00, and 21:00. On special days, such as Christmas Eve, New Year’s Day, and the night before Three Kings’ Day, the schedule is shortened: shows are only held up to 17:00. On December 25 and January 1, there are no performances so the artists can rest and celebrate the holidays with their families.

The venue remains unchanged — El Corte Inglés at 3 Preciados Street, right in the heart of Madrid. The easiest way to get here is by metro: Sol station (lines 1, 2, and 3) is just steps away. Its convenient location makes it easy to combine a visit to Cortylandia with a stroll through the festive city center or a shopping trip.

Every year, Cortylandia becomes a gathering place for thousands of families who come to immerse themselves in the festive atmosphere together. For many Madrid residents and visitors, it has become more than just a show—it’s a true family tradition. Children watch the moving figures with delight, sing familiar songs, and eagerly await the moment when the Cortylandia Express sets off on another journey. Adults, meanwhile, happily revisit their childhood as they watch the joy on their children’s faces.

The festive performance on Preciados Street is more than just entertainment—it’s part of the city’s cultural life. Cortylandia brings generations together and reminds us that miracles happen if you just believe in magic. If you’re looking for a way to delight yourself and your loved ones this December and early January, be sure to visit this show. Admission is free, and the memories will stay with you for a long time.
