On Thursday evening, a tragedy occurred at the port of Ciutadella on the island of Menorca: a car suddenly plunged into the water. The incident happened around 9:17 p.m., when people on the pier saw a vehicle with someone inside roll off the edge and sink. Emergency services, including firefighters and medical teams, arrived at the scene immediately after the accident.
At first, it was unclear how many people were inside the car. Rescue teams began searching right away and soon pulled a man from the water who was already in a state of clinical death. Despite the medics’ best efforts, they were unable to revive him. Attempts at resuscitation continued for several minutes, but, sadly, were unsuccessful.
Firefighters and rescuers worked in challenging conditions, as visibility was poor and the car had quickly sunk. Once the victim was recovered, specialists confirmed that no one else was in the vehicle. The cause of the incident has not yet been determined, and the circumstances surrounding the car’s fall from the pier remain unclear.
Local residents and eyewitnesses were shocked by what happened. Traffic for both vehicles and pedestrians was temporarily restricted in the port area to avoid interfering with the emergency response. Experts continued to work at the scene to establish the full details of the incident and ensure the safety of the surrounding area.
