El Escorial Launches a Vibrant Medieval Market with Music and Delicacies

Three-Day Medieval Festival: Crafts, Gastronomy, and Spectacular Shows Await Visitors in the Heart of Sierra de Guadarrama

From November 7 to 9, El Escorial invites visitors to a large-scale medieval market. Expect artisan stalls, street performances, and dishes from ancient recipes. Immerse yourself in a festive, historical atmosphere—just an hour from Madrid.

In early November, El Escorial once again transforms into a true medieval fairytale. After a forced break due to bad weather, the city is ready to welcome visitors to one of the region’s most vibrant autumn events. For three days, the old streets and central square will be filled with music, aromas, and the colorful spirit of bygone eras.

More than eighty stalls will line the historic center, where artisans will showcase ceramics, leather goods, glass, and textiles. You’ll also find natural cosmetics and handmade jewelry. Street performers—musicians, jugglers, actors, and storytellers—will enhance the atmosphere for a real journey through time. Free concerts, theatrical parades, and magical open-air shows await guests.

Food lovers won’t be disappointed: the market will feature taverns serving grilled dishes, mead, savory pies, and traditional sweets like almond candies and honeyed donuts. In the evening, as the lights come on and bonfires blaze, the city is transformed—fire shows light up the streets and the music gets even louder. It’s the perfect time to linger and soak in the festive, cozy atmosphere.

Family fun and entertainment for children

For families with children, organizers have prepared a special area featuring workshops, games, and puppet shows. Here, little ones can try their hand at traditional crafts, take part in interactive activities, and listen to fascinating stories. This format makes the event especially appealing for a family outing.

Practical information and tips

The event kicks off on Friday evening and continues through Sunday. Admission is free, but organizers recommend arriving early to make the most of all the venues and not miss the street performances. El Escorial is just an hour’s drive from Madrid, making it a convenient trip even for a day visit.

The Autumn Market in El Escorial is a chance to dive into a medieval atmosphere, try unique dishes, buy distinctive souvenirs, and spend quality time with family or friends. Everyone will find something to enjoy here—from historical reenactments to modern outdoor entertainment.
