A tragedy occurred overnight on Monday in Las Rozas, a suburb of Madrid: a fire broke out in a private home, claiming the life of a 96-year-old man. Ten others, including a woman who was caring for the deceased, suffered from smoke inhalation. One of the victims was taken to the hospital with mild poisoning.
The emergency services received the fire alarm at around four o’clock in the morning. The source of the blaze was located in a bedroom on one of the floors of the house on Comunidad Castilla y León Street. Five firefighting units responded promptly, along with medical and rescue teams.
Firefighters quickly contained the flames, preventing them from spreading to other parts of the house. However, thick smoke filled the rest of the rooms and even affected neighboring homes. As a result, nine people in the building were examined by medics at the scene. Most of them suffered only mild smoke inhalation.
