Early Friday morning, a fire broke out on the ground floor of a residential building on the Gandía coast in the province of Valencia. Eleven people required medical assistance as a result of the incident, including two local police officers. One of the victims suffered burns, while the others were affected by smoke inhalation.
The blaze ignited at the start of the day, while most residents were still at home. The cause of the fire remains undetermined, and experts continue to investigate the circumstances. The flames spread swiftly, affecting two additional apartments in the same building and causing panic among residents, which prompted an urgent evacuation.
Six fire crews and three ambulances responded to the scene. Rescue workers quickly set about extinguishing the blaze and evacuating people at risk. Police officers, who were also among the injured, assisted in leading residents out of the smoke-filled premises but suffered smoke inhalation themselves.
All those injured were taken to Francesc de Borja Hospital in Gandía, where they received necessary medical care. According to preliminary reports, none of the victims’ lives are in danger, though several are in moderate condition. City authorities have pledged a thorough investigation into the cause of the fire and support for the affected families.
