Emirates has announced a large-scale project to equip its entire fleet with Starlink satellite internet. Over the next two years, high-speed access will be available on 232 aircraft, including Boeing 777 and Airbus A380. This initiative will allow passengers to enjoy onboard internet free of charge, regardless of their class of service.
The first aircraft to feature the new technology is a Boeing 777, showcased at the Dubai Airshow. The company plans to outfit an additional 14 jets with Starlink each month. Starting February next year, installation will begin on Airbus A380s, accelerating the fleet-wide modernization process.
All Emirates customers will be able to access the internet without the need to register for a loyalty program or meet any additional requirements. Internet will be available on personal devices—smartphones, tablets, laptops—as well as on in-seat integrated systems.
Starlink’s capabilities will let passengers not only browse social media and watch videos, but also make video calls, work with documents online, and play networked games right during the flight. The company notes that connection speeds will be comparable to home Wi-Fi, which is especially important for long-haul international routes.
Emirates expects to complete the equipment installation on all its aircraft by 2027. As a result, the airline will operate the world’s largest wide-body fleet with free satellite internet for passengers.
The introduction of Starlink is part of Emirates’ strategy to enhance service quality and set new standards of comfort on international flights. This innovation is expected to attract additional attention to the brand and strengthen the airline’s position in the global market.
