The last November draw of the popular Euromillones lottery, held on Friday, November 28, once again brought joy to several participants from Spain. Although the main prize this time went abroad, Spanish players still walked away with impressive winnings. Fortune smiled on ticket holders in the second category, with winning tickets purchased in Madrid and the picturesque Andalusian town of Antequera, located in the province of Málaga. This locality is renowned for its rich historical and cultural heritage, boasting landmarks such as the Iglesia del Carmen, the Torreón de Asalto, and the majestic Alcazaba fortress, not to mention its famous dolmens.
But the list of lucky winners doesn’t end there. As part of the special ‘El Millón’ draw—held exclusively for players within Spain—another winner was selected. The prize of one million euros went to a participant from the city of Tarazona in the province of Zaragoza. This city is also celebrated for its rich history and architectural gems, notably the Santa María de la Huerta Cathedral and the Plaza del Palacio.
The jackpot goes to France
While Spaniards were celebrating their victories, the main lottery jackpot was claimed in France. A participant from the neighboring country managed to guess the entire winning combination. As a result, according to the rules, the prize pool was reset, and for the next draw, which will take place on Tuesday, December 2, the starting jackpot will be 17 million euros.
The winning combination in Friday’s draw was 5, 29, 33, 39, and 42, along with the ‘stars’ 3 and 9. The lucky code for the “El Millón” draw was VXZ15324.
How to try your luck in Euromillones
Euromillones draws take place twice a week, on Tuesdays and Fridays at 9:00 PM Spanish time. To participate, you need to place a bet by selecting five main numbers between 1 and 50 and two additional numbers, known as ‘stars’, between 1 and 12. To win the maximum jackpot, you must guess the entire combination, but there are 13 prize categories in total, giving you a chance to win even with a partial match.
The minimum guaranteed jackpot is 17 million euros. If no one guesses the full combination in the current draw, the amount carries over to the next draw and continues to grow until it reaches the set limit. Starting in 2024, the maximum jackpot cap was increased to 250 million euros.
Exclusive chance for Spain: El Millón
In addition to the main draw, all players who purchase Euromillones tickets in Spain are automatically entered into an extra game called “El Millón.” This game is also held on Tuesdays and Fridays. Each ticket receives a unique alphanumeric code, and in every drawing, one of these codes is randomly selected as the winner. The lucky code holder is guaranteed a prize of one million euros. It’s important to note that this win is independent of the main draw results, significantly increasing the chances of a big prize specifically for participants in Spain.
It’s worth noting that the Euromillones lottery has an interesting history. The first draw took place on February 13, 2004, in Paris, resulting from a joint initiative by the national lottery operators of Spain, France, and the United Kingdom. The main idea was to create a game with a massive shared prize pool for several European countries. Over time, other countries joined the project. Today, nine countries participate in the draw: Spain, France, the United Kingdom, Portugal, Ireland, Belgium, Switzerland, Austria, and Luxembourg.
