Early in the morning, a serious accident involving three large trucks occurred on the AP-7 motorway near L’Aldea (Tarragona). As a result of the collision, one of the drivers died at the scene, while another was taken to Joan XXIII hospital in critical condition. The third driver escaped without serious injuries.
Both lanes of the highway were completely blocked. Detours were set up for drivers: heading south via exit 308 L’Ampolla (L’Ampolla), and northbound via exit 322 L’Aldea. Emergency services, including firefighters, were on site with more than ten units working to deal with the aftermath of the incident.
After the collision, one of the trucks caught fire, making rescue efforts more difficult. The blaze was contained, but heavy machinery was needed to clear the roadway completely. For several hours, emergency crews worked to eliminate the consequences of the accident to restore safety and reopen traffic.
The cause of the tragedy has not yet been determined, and an investigation is underway. It is known that the emergency services received the call about the incident at around 5:25 am. Preliminary data suggest that 125 people have already died on the roads of Catalonia this year, raising serious concerns among authorities and the public.
