Madrid comes alive with concerts and exhibitions, transforming the city's atmosphere and inviting everyone to experience new emotions and unforgettable moments

This March, Madrid surprises with new cultural events. The city is preparing a light festival and concerts. These events are influencing the lives and moods of the capital’s residents.

In March, Madrid becomes the center of cultural change as the city fills with new events that shape the everyday lives and leisure of its residents. This year, the Spanish capital is offering free events that not only embellish the city but also create new points of attraction for everyone seeking inspiration and fresh experiences. According to El Pais, in the coming days, Madrid will host festivals, concerts, and exhibitions that reflect current trends in art and music.

LuzMadrid Light Festival

From March 12 to 14, Madrid will shine even brighter with the third edition of the LuzMadrid Festival. This year, organizers have installed 15 light installations across 12 districts of the city. The main venue will be the Arganzuela district, but light displays will also appear in Retiro, Centro, Chamberí, and Carabanchel. Key locations include Matadero, Casa del Reloj, Nave de Terneras, Madrid Río, and Colonia del Pico del Pañuelo. Light compositions by artists from various countries will transform building facades, squares, and streets into unique art spaces. For many locals and visitors, this is a chance to see familiar places in a new light and take extraordinary photographs.

Musical Evenings

On March 6, the Casa de Vacas cultural center will host a concert featuring ancient traditions researcher Ana Alcaide alongside American multi-instrumentalist Bill Cooley. Their program blends folk and world music, with the sounds of historic instruments like the lute and Swedish nyckelharpa creating a unique atmosphere. Admission is free, with some tickets distributed one hour before the start. Guests can easily arrive by metro (Retiro station) or by bus.

On March 13, the Antonio Machado Center will host another musical evening—this time with an Argentinian touch. Veronika Silva and César Angeleri will present a program that weaves together tango, folklore, and classical music. The repertoire includes works by Carlos Gardel, Astor Piazzolla, Atahualpa Yupanqui, and other renowned composers. The concert promises to be a true celebration for South American music lovers. The venue is accessible by metro (Alsacia station) or bus.

8M and women’s history

As part of International Women’s Day on March 8, Casa de América has prepared a special program highlighting the role of women in the history and culture of Ibero-America. One of the main events will be a lecture, ‘Una monárquica en tiempos de revolución. María Antonia Bolívar, hermana del Libertador (1777-1842),’ led by historian Inés Quintero from the Central University of Venezuela. The focus will be on the fate of María Antonia Bolívar, a woman whose life reflects the complexity and richness of the independence era. Registration is required for participation, admission is free.

The art of watercolor

Until the end of March, the Espacio Cultural Núñez de Balboa is hosting the exhibition “Naturaleza viva” by artist Feli Bernardo. The display features realistic watercolors depicting natural landscapes and open-air scenes. Bernardo’s works have been recognized beyond Spain: one painting, “Camino al sol,” has been selected for the international exhibition Fabriano en Acquarello 2026 in Bologna. Admission to the exhibition is free, with Velásquez being the nearest metro station.

In recent years, Madrid has regularly served as a venue for major cultural events that draw the attention of both locals and tourists. Light festivals and musical evenings have repeatedly transformed the city, turning it into a space for creativity and connection. In 2025, similar events gathered thousands of spectators, with exhibitions of contemporary artists attracting collectors and critics alike. These activities contribute to the development of the urban environment and shape a new cultural identity for the capital.
