On Monday, another alarming incident occurred in the south of Lanzarote: four vacationers—two men and two women—found themselves in danger while swimming in the natural pools of Los Charcones. All of the injured were visitors from the mainland and abroad, having come from Catalonia and France, ranging in age from 30 to 40.
The group decided to swim in one of the picturesque lagoons that form along the coast during high tide. However, a powerful wave suddenly rolled in, cresting over the natural pool and literally sweeping the swimmers from their spots. The tourists managed to reach the shore on their own, but not without injuries: all sustained bruises, and one man is suspected to have a ligament sprain.
One of the women was taken to the Playa Blanca medical center, while the other three were sent to the José Molina Orosa Hospital in Arrecife for further examination. Fortunately, serious consequences were avoided, and all of the victims are reported to be in satisfactory condition.
This incident continues a worrying trend in the Canary Islands: just last weekend in Tenerife, three people died and fifteen others were injured in similar accidents. Local rescue services are again urging everyone to be cautious when swimming in natural bodies of water, especially during periods of strong waves.
