An incident in León has once again raised concerns about the safety and rights of transgender people in Spain. The group attack on Miss Trans Zamora 2024 was not only a personal tragedy but also a wake-up call for society on the need for change. The incident sparked widespread public reaction and prompted discussions on measures to protect vulnerable groups.
According to Telecinco, the attack occurred in a pub in La Bañeza. Bianca Lizbeth Fernández, the holder of the Miss Trans Zamora 2024 title, was first assaulted by four women inside the venue, and then again at the exit, where about ten more people joined the conflict. The altercation began when she was denied access to the women’s restroom, sparking a verbal exchange that escalated into physical violence.
Aftermath of the attack
The victim sustained numerous injuries: she was hit on the body and face, and a bottle was used during the assault. As a result, Bianca had to seek medical attention first at a local health center, where she received four stitches, and later at the hospital in Benavente, where doctors found a serious wound on her eyelid. Medical staff noted that the injury was so deep she nearly lost her eye. In addition to the physical harm, her personal belongings were stolen, her glasses were broken, and her phone was damaged.
Bianca Lizbeth Fernández spoke publicly about the incident on social media, stressing that she intends to seek justice not only for herself but also for others who have faced similar situations. She noted that the attack left a deep emotional impact but did not break her dignity.
Public response and investigation
Police have already launched an investigation into the incident. Bianca filed a report at the Benavente Civil Guard station, and the case materials were forwarded to La Bañeza. Law enforcement requested surveillance footage to identify the attackers. There have been no arrests so far, but the investigation is ongoing.
Spain’s transgender community expressed support for the victim. The Trans platform and its president, Mar Cambrollé, called on authorities to act swiftly and emphasized that such cases reveal the high level of violence towards transgender people. Civil organizations insist on stricter measures to protect the rights and freedoms of vulnerable groups.
Context and similar cases
In recent years, Spain has seen a rise in attacks against LGBTQ+ community members, especially in smaller towns and rural areas. According to RUSSPAIN.COM, such incidents frequently spark public debate and lead to solidarity actions. In 2025, Madrid and Barcelona have already witnessed mass rallies against discrimination following a series of similar cases. Despite government efforts, the issue remains pressing, and victims continue to face challenges when seeking assistance and defending their rights.
