The marriage and separation of Julio Iglesias and Isabel Preysler have long been shrouded in rumors and speculation. Many believed the famous singer was never able to come to terms with the loss, and fans of the couple held out hope for their reunion until the very end. Recently published memoirs by the socialite, which have become a true publishing sensation, have finally set the record straight, shedding light on the events of those years that she kept secret for so long, despite constant media attention.
The relationship between the former spouses, both of whom found happiness in new unions long ago, has always remained warm and respectful. In her memoirs, Preysler emphasizes that she maintained an excellent relationship with the singer’s father, Dr. Iglesias Puga. He, in turn, continued to support his former daughter-in-law and grandchildren even after the divorce. As it turns out, the reason for the breakup was the artist’s countless affairs, which he did not deny when confronted directly.
The key issue during the separation was finances. The marriage was under a joint property arrangement, which gave Isabel the right to claim half of everything acquired. However, she decided not to go to court. Preysler understood that the vast fortune had been earned thanks to Julio’s talent and his meteoric career, making him one of the first globally recognized Spanish-speaking performers. She was confident in her own abilities to support herself, which she proved over the following years.
Ultimately, during a personal meeting, Julio Iglesias offered his ex-wife terms that she considered fair. He left her two properties: an apartment in a prestigious district of Madrid and a house in Guadalmar, on the Costa del Sol coast. Isabel accepted the offer without hesitation.
Some time later, the singer’s lawyer contacted Preysler to inform her of an additional decision by his client. In addition to the properties, Iglesias set a monthly allowance of 200,000 pesetas for her and 180,000 pesetas for their three children. Payments to Isabel stopped when she filed for annulment in order to marry Carlos Falcó. The child support continued until the children moved to Miami. Their grandfather, Dr. Iglesias Puga, also contributed: he paid for the grandchildren’s security and their membership at an elite Madrid club, demonstrating his lasting devotion to the family.
