A scandal erupted in one of Jerez’s shopping centers when staff discovered an unusual device in the women’s restroom. A mobile phone had been hidden behind a ventilation grille, recording video. The device was spotted by female employees, who immediately reported it to security.
Police officers arriving at the scene quickly determined that the device had been installed to capture footage in highly private situations. Moreover, it was transmitting real-time images to a smartwatch belonging to a member of the cleaning staff. During the investigation, it emerged that the suspect had already come to the attention of law enforcement for a similar incident at a different establishment last year.
Investigators searched the confiscated phone and found recordings involving several women working at the shopping center. Preliminary findings suggest the man used the footage solely for personal viewing and did not distribute the material. Nevertheless, police continue their investigation to rule out the possibility of files being shared with third parties.
The suspect is currently in custody, while the affected women are receiving necessary support. The management of the shopping center has strengthened security measures and is conducting an internal review. The incident has sparked discussions in the city about workplace safety and what more can be done to protect staff.
