In December 2024, Spain was shaken by news of the death of Isak Andic, one of the country’s most renowned entrepreneurs and founder of the Mango brand. The events unfolded on the slopes of Montserrat, where the businessman went for a walk with his eldest son. At the time, the incident appeared to be an accident, but ten months later, the investigation has taken a new turn, with the closest relative of the deceased now under suspicion.
On that fateful day, Andic and his son Jonathan chose a popular route leading from the Salnitre caves in Collbató to the Montserrat monastery. This path is famous for its scenic views and is considered not too difficult for experienced hikers. The Andic family often visited this area, and walking these trails was a familiar routine for them.
According to Jonathan, the tragedy occurred on their way back. He was walking ahead when he suddenly heard rocks falling behind him. Turning around, he saw his father plummet off a cliff about 150 meters high. The location was hard to reach, which made the rescue operation extremely difficult. Jonathan immediately called emergency services, and police, firefighters, a helicopter, and a mountain rescue team arrived on the scene. The first to arrive was a patrol car from Martorell. While rescuers worked, Jonathan was assisted in an ambulance due to severe stress. Later, Estefania Knut, Andic’s partner since 2018, joined him. It is known that the relationship between her and the deceased’s son was tense.
The entrepreneur’s body ended up in a very difficult-to-reach location. Only by midday were rescue workers able to recover the deceased and transfer him to the Catalonia Institute of Forensic Medicine for examination. Alongside the body, Andic’s personal belongings were found, including a wallet and a mobile phone.
After the incident, Jonathan went to the police station to give a detailed account of what had happened. He claimed he was walking a bit ahead, while his father lagged behind. At some point, he heard a noise, and when he turned around, he saw his father falling into the ravine. Despite his attempts to help, it was impossible to prevent the tragedy. The place where the accident occurred is known for its uneven terrain but is not usually considered dangerous for experienced hikers. However, the combination of altitude and terrain features proved fatal. During the investigation, police found inconsistencies in Jonathan’s testimony. The judge, who had previously closed the case as an accident, was forced to reopen the investigation.
Montserrat had always been a place of rest and recharge for Andic. He enjoyed spending time in nature, often choosing this trail for walks, sometimes with his family, sometimes alone. This time, his only companion was his son. According to relatives, on the eve of the tragedy, father and son were trying to mend their relationship after a series of conflicts. Three months before his death, Andic asked a lawyer to prepare a prenuptial agreement to protect his son’s inheritance in case he married Paula Nata. This decision displeased Jonathan. Additionally, tensions remained between him and his father’s partner.
Today, investigators are leaning toward the theory that the entrepreneur’s death may not have been accidental. Attention is focused on his son, whose statements are raising increasing questions from investigators. What began as a tragedy on a mountain trail is gradually taking on the traits of a family drama with criminal elements.
