Imagine falling asleep to the rustling of pine trees and waking up to birdsong, all just a thirty-minute metro ride from Madrid’s main square. This isn’t a fantasy, but reality at Osuna, the city’s only in-town campground. This green oasis, hidden away from the buzz of the metropolis, has become a true find for travelers seeking alternative accommodations, as well as for locals who want to escape the city bustle without going far.
Nestled among centuries-old trees, this oasis offers guests more than just a tent pitch—it has a full range of overnight options, from cozy wooden bungalows to spots for camper vans. For over sixty years, the campground has welcomed travelers, yet many are still surprised to discover that in Spain’s capital you can have breakfast outdoors by your own cottage, or even spend the night in a unique Finnish ‘tube house.’
A historic oasis by the airport
Opened back in 1959, Camping Osuna is the only facility of its kind located within Madrid’s municipal boundaries. Its location is strategic: just three kilometers from IFEMA exhibition center and four kilometers from Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas International Airport. This makes it an ideal choice for visitors in town for business or major events.
Transportation is another advantage of this location. The direct L5 metro line from Canillejas station takes you right to the city center, Callao Square, in just 30 minutes. It’s also easily accessible by bus on routes 101, 105, 114, 115, and 151. For those who enjoy an active lifestyle, BiciMAD bike-sharing stations nearby make it easy to explore local parks on two wheels.
From tent to Finnish tube
The campsite features 160 plots for campers and tents, as well as areas for free placement. For those who prefer comfort, there are wooden cabins known as Las Cabañas del Capricho, designed for four people, with rates starting at €98 per night. But the true highlight is the unique “tubo experience”—cozy capsules where you can spend the night in an unusual setting starting from €200.
The average guest stay is two to three days, and the administration has set a maximum limit for extended stays at six months. This helps preserve the atmosphere of a tourist destination rather than a permanent residential complex.
Cultural life under the pines
Besides accommodation, the campsite offers a wide range of amenities: a 24-hour front desk, laundry facilities, a children’s playground, a small shop, and even a Finnish grill hut, the ‘kota’, for barbecuing. The main attraction is the El Ring concert stage, which hosts live performances on weekends, featuring up-and-coming local musicians as well as established Spanish stars.
For example, a full schedule is planned for the Christmas season: Javier Ruibal will perform on December 19, followed by Los Bolindres on the 20th, La Pucci on the 26th, and Pancho Varona on the 28th. A special Tardebuena event is set for December 24. Concert tickets can be purchased on the official camping website starting at 20 euros. The campground’s audience changes with the season: during holidays, most visitors are Spanish, while at other times, it’s frequented by international tourists who appreciate peace, nature, and convenient access to Madrid’s attractions.
By the way, Osuna camping is named after the historic district where it is located. This area is famous for El Capricho Park, one of Madrid’s most beautiful and romantic parks, created in the 18th century by the Duchess of Osuna. The proximity to such a historic site gives the campground a special appeal. Over the decades, it has witnessed Madrid’s expansion but has managed to preserve its unique atmosphere as a secluded natural retreat. Many Madrid families have fond memories of this place, where they used to spend their weekends as children.
