Starting in 2026, an important change will take place in Madrid: the company Madrid Calle 30, responsible for the operation and maintenance of the M-30 ring road, will become fully municipal. City authorities have completed the buyout of their private partner’s stake, and now full control of this strategic infrastructure passes exclusively to city hall. The transaction was formalized last week, and the new management structure will take effect on January 1.
At the same time, the city has signed five new contracts for the maintenance and operation of the highway. These agreements will replace the old ones, which expire on December 31. According to city hall officials, these changes will not disrupt the road’s daily operations: all services will continue as usual, and employees will keep their jobs.
Economic impact
Madrid officials emphasize that shifting to a fully municipal model will save the city more than one billion euros over the next 15 years. This measure, according to authorities, will make management of the M-30 more efficient and sustainable. The main goals are to reduce maintenance costs and streamline operational processes.
City hall notes that thanks to this new approach, it will be possible not only to reduce expenses but also to increase transparency in the use of funds. These changes are expected to have a positive effect on the city budget and redirect the savings toward other important projects.
Employee guarantees
Special attention is being given to the future of workers employed on the M-30. City officials assure that all staff will remain on the payroll and continue performing their duties. This decision aims to ensure stability and prevent any disruption in road maintenance.
According to city hall representatives, Madrid residents need not worry about the quality of services provided. All road maintenance and operations will continue at the same high standard, and any changes will be seamless for users.
New contracts
Starting January 1, new contracts for the maintenance and operation of the M-30 take effect. They cover all key areas, from technical upkeep of the roadway to ensuring traffic safety. Each of the five contracts is assigned to a specific scope of work, which, according to city officials, will improve management efficiency.
City hall emphasizes that the transition to the new system will not result in a decline in service. All obligations to maintain infrastructure remain in place, and the municipality will directly oversee their fulfillment.
Public reaction
For residents of the capital, changes in the management of the M-30 will likely go unnoticed. The road will continue to operate as usual, with all services available as before. Officials stress that the main goal of these reforms is to make the road’s maintenance more cost-effective and transparent without sacrificing quality.
Starting in 2026, the M-30 will become a fully urban facility, giving Madrid the ability to independently manage all operations related to one of the capital’s most important transport arteries.
