Major scandal erupts after tragedy Who will be held accountable for the disaster near Cordoba

Inside the turmoil: the Transport Minister faces shocking accusations, fiery rhetoric, and a tense fight to keep a seat at the highest levels of government

A political conflict is flaring up in Spain following the horrific train accident near Cordoba. The opposition leader demands the resignation of the Minister of Transport, accusing the authorities of inaction and cynicism. What are officials hiding? Details inside.

Spain remains gripped by heated debate over the railroad tragedy in Adamuz, where a collision between two trains claimed 45 lives. Outrage has swept the country after opposition People’s Party leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo delivered sharp criticism at the government and Transport Minister Óscar Puente personally. According to him, officials have not only failed to take responsibility for what happened, but continue to ignore the public’s calls for justice.

Feijóo did not hide his emotions, stating that the transport minister spends more time on social networks than addressing real problems facing the rail infrastructure. The politician believes that instead of investigating the causes of the disaster and taking action, the head of the ministry prefers to confuse the public with figures and display arrogance. His speech included accusations against the entire cabinet: “The authorities not only refuse to admit mistakes, but also pretend nothing has happened.”

Power and Inaction

The opposition was particularly outraged by the lack of any resignations following the tragedy. Feijóo stressed that in other regions where officials took responsibility for crises, decisions were made quickly and decisively. As an example, he recalled the situation in Andalucía, when after a breast cancer diagnosis scandal, five officials resigned despite there being no victims. In the case of the railway disaster, he noted, no representatives of the central government have taken political responsibility.

In a radio interview, the politician did not hide his disappointment: “The Minister of Transport prefers to engage in online arguments rather than focus on passenger safety.” He also pointed out that Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez is in no hurry to dismiss Puente, because he himself would end up in a similar position. “Sánchez needs someone to take the fall and draw attention away from his own mistakes,” Feijóo stated.

Political games

During the discussion, Feijóo noted the Transport Minister’s attempts to distance himself from the scandal by comparing himself to other politicians. The opposition member recalled that in similar cases in other regions, officials did not wait for orders from above but made their own decisions to resign. “You should be compared not with former presidents, but with those who were not afraid to take responsibility,” he emphasized.

In Feijóo’s opinion, the government is deliberately diverting the conversation to avoid discussing the real causes of the tragedy. He accused the authorities of turning the disaster into a ‘minor issue’, mentioning it only in passing during parliamentary sessions and failing to give proper attention to the victims and their families. ‘This is not just a mistake—this is a humiliation for the entire country,’ the opposition leader stated.

Corruption and Disillusionment

In his statements, Feijóo did not limit his criticism to specific individuals. He accused the Ministry of Transport of systemic corruption and inefficiency, calling it a ‘zone of zero responsibility.’ According to him, the agency is ruled by apathy, and decisions are based on political interests rather than concerns for public safety.

The leader of the Partido Popular expressed confidence that the consequences of the tragedy would not be limited to political scandals. He suggested that in the future, responsibility would fall not only on officials but also on those who allowed violations in rail transport management. ‘It’s not just a political issue—there are still court proceedings ahead and possibly changes in the elections,’ Feijóo concluded.

Hope for Change

While the public awaits answers and the families of the victims demand justice, tension remains high within the government. The scandal surrounding the Adamus disaster continues to escalate, prompting many to wonder: who will ultimately take responsibility for what happened? Behind the scenes, officials are discussing possible personnel changes, but there are still no official statements.

The story of the train accident near Córdoba has become a litmus test for Spain’s entire political system. Some are searching for those to blame, while others try to hold on to their positions. But public pressure is mounting, and it seems this story is far from over.
