A scandal has erupted at a private kindergarten in Jerez de la Frontera after one of the staff members became the focus of an investigation when parents noticed alarming changes in their children’s behavior. Their suspicions prompted the administration to take decisive action.
Without waiting for official complaints, the preschool administration decided to find out what was happening in the group led by the middle-aged woman. They hired a private detective, who installed hidden cameras in the facility. The footage revealed that the teacher had resorted to unacceptable methods: the recordings showed her being rough and even slapping four children.
After reviewing the video evidence, the administration immediately fired the employee and reported the incident to the police. Specialists from the department for family and women’s affairs joined the case, inviting the parents of the affected children to view the footage. By Tuesday, the suspect was arrested and charged with child abuse.
Despite being a private institution, the kindergarten collaborates with the regional authorities of Andalusia (Junta de Andalucía) and receives certain benefits. However, as local administrators clarified, all matters related to hiring and dismissing staff are fully under the institution’s own authority. Officials were informed of the incident unofficially, after the kindergarten’s management had already taken action on their own.
The former staff member is now awaiting the court’s decision. Parents and the local community are closely following developments, demanding transparency and fair punishment. The incident has sparked widespread discussion about the need for stricter oversight in institutions entrusted with what matters most — children.
