Omar Montes explains why rap cannot be an ultra-rightwing movement

Can Hip-Hop Really Align with Far-Right Ideas — the Surprising Truth

Omar Montes stated that rap is incompatible with fascism. El Chojín supported him, highlighting hip hop’s social mission. The debate over politics in rap is heating up in Spain.

A new debate has erupted in Spain: can rap be far-right? In 2025, this question has become particularly relevant amid the rise of artists whose lyrics spark controversy and criticism. Omar Montes, one of the most prominent figures in the genre, spoke on this topic during a popular show. In his view, rap cannot be fascist by nature. He emphasized that hip-hop culture has always been built on fighting injustice and rejects ideologies that restrict freedom and equality.

Recently, Spain has been discussing the phenomenon of so-called ‘right-wing rap.’ Some performers, such as Angie Corine, have released tracks that insult women and promote radical views. Their songs often include accusations against opponents, labeling them as ‘communists’ simply for having different opinions. However, Montes is convinced that such instances do not reflect the essence of the genre but are rather exceptions intended to shock the public.

Social mission

El Chojín, one of Spain’s most respected rappers, also joined the discussion. In a recent interview, he noted that hip hop has always been the voice of those fighting for justice. According to him, far-right ideas cannot take root in rap because the genre is fundamentally about defending the oppressed and confronting discrimination. El Chojín expressed hope that the wave of far-right sentiment sweeping across Europe will soon subside. He believes that sooner or later, society will realize that justice can only be achieved through equality and solidarity, not through division and hostility.

The rapper also pointed out that history shows such ideologies never last long, as they contradict the core values of most people. He emphasized that each generation must independently recognize the dangers of extreme views, even if those lessons are already written in textbooks.

A look at global events

During the conversation, El Chojín also addressed other pressing issues, particularly the situation in the Middle East. He called what is happening in Gaza and the West Bank one of the greatest tragedies of his generation. In his view, words can no longer capture the full horror of what is taking place. The rapper condemned not only the war itself but also the position of world leaders who, in his opinion, not only remain silent but support one side in the conflict.

He expressed particular outrage at the fact that some European countries continue to supply weapons that are used not for defense, but for targeting civilians. He stressed that such actions are incompatible with the principles of human rights protection, which Western politicians so often proclaim.

Rap and politics

The debate over the political nature of rap in Spain remains ongoing. On one hand, new performers are emerging who use music to promote radical ideas. On the other, most genre representatives, including artists like Omar Montes and El Chojín, insist that hip-hop is above all a platform to fight injustice, not a tool to incite hatred.

There is a growing awareness in society that music can be a powerful weapon in the fight for rights and freedoms. However, attempts to use it for extremist propaganda are increasingly opposed by both artists and listeners. In Spain, the public continues to discuss where the line lies between freedom of expression and responsibility for one’s words.
