In Castellón de la Plana, officers from the National Police successfully apprehended a foreign national listed among Canada’s top ten most wanted individuals. The man was internationally wanted on charges related to fraud, identity theft, and illegal trafficking of personal information. According to investigators, he faces up to 14 years in prison.
The investigation began earlier this year when authorities learned that the suspect might be hiding in Spain. Between January 2017 and September 2020, he acquired client data lists from a financial company and orchestrated a series of fraudulent schemes. His actions resulted in losses totaling nearly two million Canadian dollars.
Spanish law enforcement, using international cooperation tools, managed to identify the area where the fugitive was living. After conducting several checks and surveillance operations, he was arrested on November 6 in one of the city’s bars. The operation was made possible by information sharing between police forces in different countries, which enabled them to quickly locate and detain the suspect.
