Residents of Mallorca and Menorca are facing severe weather challenges today as the islands have been placed under an orange alert due to prolonged and heavy rain. Authorities are urging caution, as the rainfall continues unabated and is accompanied by thunderstorms, especially in coastal areas.
Eastern mainland Spain has not been spared either. Heavy rainfall and thunderstorm fronts have affected the coast from Alicante to Girona. Cloud cover is expected to increase throughout the day, with new waves of rain forecast for the central and northern regions by evening. Particularly intense downpours are expected in Catalonia, the Pyrenees, and the mountainous areas of the Iberian System.
Weather instability is expected to gradually subside, but the impacts of the past weekend are still being felt: Valencia, Catalonia, and Ibiza recently reported multiple incidents caused by Cyclone Alice. Meteorologists now indicate that the situation should stabilize by the end of the week, though some areas may still be affected by local storms.
The Canary Islands are experiencing variable cloudiness: dense clouds prevail in the north, while high and cumulus clouds are present in the south. In Galicia and northern Lugo, thick fog is possible, and dust in the air cannot be ruled out near the Alboran Sea and in the southern part of the peninsula.
Temperature patterns are also changing: it will become cooler in the north and along the southeastern coasts, while in the interior southern regions temperatures will rise. Light frosts are possible in the Pyrenees mountains. The wind will be mainly easterly and northeasterly, moderate on the coast, and light and variable inland. In the Canary Islands, winds will be light, with an easterly direction prevailing on the mountainous islands.
