Five V16 warning beacon models lose approval what this means for drivers in Spain

Updated list of V16 devices without approval in 2026

Five V16 emergency warning beacons have lost approval in Spain. The decision affects thousands of drivers. We explain what this means for road safety and how the devices may be used.

The decision to revoke approval for five models of V16 emergency beacons came as a surprise to many Spanish drivers. This development directly affects those who have already purchased such devices, as it concerns road safety and compliance with new regulations from the Directorate of Traffic. Now, owners of these models wonder whether they can continue using their beacons without risking fines or losing contact with emergency services.

According to the latest update, licenses have been withdrawn for five models that were previously considered fully compliant with standards. These include four devices produced by Trafic Safety S.L. of Sant Quirze del Vallès (Barcelona): the Safety Light by ISSE, Safety Light 2 by ISSE Safety Light, Dunlop V16 by Dunlop, and Swiss Drive V16 by Swiss Drive. The fifth beacon—V16eurolight by ELTV16EUROLIGHT WHEN YOU NEED TO BE SAFE—has also been removed from the approved list, as reported by 20 Minutos. The reason is the discontinuation of production and the lack of further support from the manufacturers.

Causes and consequences

Revocation of approval does not mean an immediate ban on the use of these devices. Under current regulations, drivers can continue using the beacons they purchased for the promised 12-year lifespan. However, uncertainty remains: can manufacturers guarantee a stable connection to the DGT 3.0 platform throughout the entire period? If a company ceases operations, the Directorate of Traffic itself assumes responsibility for maintaining the connection, ensuring that no emergency alert goes unnoticed.

In recent years, the V16 emergency beacon market in Spain has seen rapid development, with over 300 certified models available. However, since the beginning of 2026, the trend has shifted: some devices are losing their licenses, and new requirements for functionality and DGT 3.0 connectivity are becoming increasingly strict. This forces manufacturers to rethink their offerings and ensure long-term support.

What should owners do

For those who have already purchased one of the five models, the situation remains relatively stable. Beacons can be used until their 12-year validity expires, and the connection to DGT 3.0 is guaranteed by the government. Still, experts recommend keeping track of the updated list of approved devices and being prepared for possible changes in the future. If technical issues arise with connectivity, you should contact the Directorate of Transport directly.

According to 20 Minutos, the LCOE and Applus+ IDIADA laboratories continue to certify new models that meet the standards. This means the market is evolving, and drivers always have options among current and supported devices. However, it is important to remember: buying a beacon without a valid license can result in a fine and issues with alarm signal registration.

Context and trends

In recent years, Spain has tightened requirements for emergency devices in vehicles. Since 2024, it has become mandatory to have a V16 beacon capable of transmitting signals to DGT 3.0. Similar cases of license revocation have already occurred: in January 2026, four models were withdrawn from approval, and previously, several devices from other manufacturers lost their certification. According to russpain.com analysis, these measures aim to improve reliability and road safety, as well as remove outdated or unsupported solutions from the market. Further updates to standards and stricter control of emergency device manufacturers are expected in the coming years.
