A red weather alert has been issued on the coast of Huelva province due to heavy rain that could cause a sharp rise in water levels and local flooding. Neighboring regions, including Córdoba, Sevilla, and Badajoz, are under an orange warning: they are also expecting heavy and prolonged rainfall.
Meteorologists warn that most of Spain will be affected by powerful Atlantic cyclones. The only exception will be the Mediterranean coasts, where significant rainfall is not expected. Winds will pick up, especially in the area of Cádiz and along the Málaga coast, where gusts may reach storm force.
Nighttime temperatures will be above average in the coming days, while daytime temperatures will be noticeably cooler, except along the Mediterranean coast. In the Canary Islands, cloudy weather with occasional rain in the highlands is expected, but overall temperatures will remain stable.
Further weather developments
On Thursday, the area of instability will shift eastward. Particularly intense downpours are possible in southern Castilla-La Mancha and eastern Andalucía, as well as in the Balearic Islands. By evening, a new front will reach Galicia, bringing prolonged rainfall, especially in the western part of the region.
Nighttime temperatures will drop slightly, but it will get warmer again during the day. In the central and southern regions, as well as in the north and along the coast, thermometers will rise above 20 degrees.
Weekend forecast
On Friday, rain will cover the south of Galicia, the west of Castilla y León, and the north of Extremadura. Precipitation is also expected in other parts of Castilla y León, as well as in the north and central regions of the country. The atmosphere will remain typically unstable for this time of year, with autumn-like conditions prevailing.
On Saturday, showers will continue in the western regions, although their intensity will decrease. Sunday will bring variable cloud cover and scattered showers that could affect large areas. However, it is still difficult to predict the exact timing and location of the rain. Temperatures will fluctuate but should remain within the normal range for the season.
