A major salmonellosis outbreak was reported in Cartagena, at one of the popular hotels on the La Manga coast. According to the latest data, the number of cases has reached 190 people. Most of those affected fell ill after dining at the Cavanna hotel restaurant.
Symptoms among those infected included vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, chills, and fever. Medical professionals link these cases to the consumption of contaminated food served at the hotel restaurant last Saturday.
Currently, nineteen people are receiving treatment at Santa Lucia hospital in Cartagena. Two patients were discharged in the past 24 hours; however, doctors note that some hospitalized individuals are gradually improving and may soon be able to leave the facility.
Following detection of the outbreak, the Cavanna hotel kitchen was immediately closed for a full sanitary inspection and disinfection. Epidemiologists continue their investigation to determine the exact source of the infection and prevent further spread.
Authorities in the Murcia region are urging anyone who visited the hotel restaurant during the specified period to monitor their health closely and seek medical attention immediately if symptoms appear.
Health authorities continue to monitor the situation and are taking additional measures to protect hotel guests and staff. Laboratory tests are expected to be completed in the coming days, which will help identify the source of the infection and guide further decisions regarding the hotel’s operations.
The salmonella outbreak at Cavanna has become one of the largest in the region in recent years, drawing attention from both local residents and tourists vacationing on the La Manga coast.
