A tragedy occurred in the German city of Bautzen that shocked not only locals but the entire circus community in Europe. During a performance at the Paul Busch circus, a 27-year-old artist from Mallorca named Marina B. lost her life. The young woman, who had dedicated a decade to the circus arts, was performing a complex trapeze act when she suddenly fell from a height of about five meters.
Spectators at the show became unwitting witnesses to the accident. There were more than a hundred people in the audience, and many were deeply shaken by what they saw. Police who arrived at the scene classified the incident as a workplace accident. According to their statement, no signs of foul play were found. In the circus industry, artists are responsible for assembling and checking their own equipment, which was confirmed by law enforcement officials.
Marina B. was more than just an acrobat—she mastered many circus disciplines, including aerial routines, balancing acts, and performances on the wheel. Over the years, she worked in various European countries, including Poland and Germany, where she had been living recently. Her death is a heavy blow to her colleagues, friends, and the entire entertainment industry.
Following the tragedy, the circus management decided to end the shows and dismantle the big top. A similar incident was recalled, which occurred seven years ago in Florida (USA), when a Cirque du Soleil acrobat died after falling from a height of six meters. Although such heights are considered standard for professionals, no one is immune to a fatal accident. The city authorities of Bautzen expressed their condolences to the family and friends of the deceased performer.
