In November and December 2025, Spain will host a large-scale series of events aimed at teaching younger generations the value of democratic freedoms. Authorities have announced the launch of 480 new initiatives that will reach every autonomous community. This move continues a program marking the 50th anniversary of Francisco Franco’s death and seeks to remind society of the importance of civil rights and liberties.
New formats to engage youth
Organizers are focusing on modern and interactive approaches to engage young Spaniards. The campaign will feature not only traditional lectures and meetings but also creative activities: a strategy video game highlighting threats to democracy and a mobile escape room with questions about the dictatorship period. The goal is not just to inform, but to involve participants in discussions about historic events and their impact on life today.
Creative communication and linguistic diversity
As part of the “La democracia es tu poder” (Democracy is Your Power) campaign, eye-catching banners, videos, and radio messages are being distributed across the country. They highlight how citizens’ rights have transformed in recent decades — from personal freedom of choice to the right to openly criticize authorities. Special attention is given to communicating these ideas in all of Spain’s official languages, making it possible to reach the broadest possible audience.
Remembering the past, looking to the future
The organizers emphasize that the campaign’s goal is not to celebrate historical dates, but to reflect on the country’s journey toward freedom. The focus is on the role of ordinary citizens and civic movements in restoring democracy. There are plans to continue similar initiatives next year, to sustain interest in the topic and engage more young people in a dialogue about Spain’s future.
