Three Unusual Places in Madrid for a Leisurely January Start and Fresh Experiences

Where to Find Madrid's Best Bagels and the Perfect Spot to Unwind

January in Madrid is the perfect time for discovery. These three spots offer a break from the rush. Experience gastronomy, comfort, and self-care.

January in Madrid is a time when the city seems to slow down after the New Year holidays and the streets grow quieter. During this period, it’s especially pleasant to discover places where you can enjoy the atmosphere and savor the moment. This year, three spots stand out for offering different ways to relax and take care of yourself: Keli restaurant, Sisi Bagels bakery, and the Sapphira aesthetics center.

Keli: tradition and comfort

Keli is located in Barrio de Salamanca, in the space once occupied by Embassy. Its interior evokes an old Madrid home, complete with a library, living room, and game room. There’s no focus on trends here—attention is given to homestyle Spanish cuisine and guest comfort.

The menu features traditional dishes like chipirones in ink, pepitoria-style chicken, rice with capon and mushrooms, as well as a signature potato dish. Chef Juan Pablo Jiménez blends classic recipes with high-quality ingredients, creating an experience of homely warmth and leisurely dining. After your meal, you can linger over a glass of wine or simply enjoy conversation in a cozy setting.

Sisi Bagels: a New York experience in Malasaña

Sisi Bagels bakery, located at Espíritu Santo 38, offers handmade bagels following traditional New York recipes. Founders Victoria and Cristián carefully studied both local and American baking traditions before opening in Madrid. Their bagels recently took third place at an international competition in New York.

The menu blends classics and experiments: bagels with cream cheese and herbs, pastrami, salmon, peanut butter, and chocolate. Among the desserts, tiramisu and banana pudding are especially popular. The bakery offers a cozy atmosphere, perfect for a leisurely breakfast or coffee with friends.

Sapphira: self-care

The Sapphira Aesthetic Center, located on Príncipe de Vergara, offers facial and body treatments with a focus on personalized service and client comfort. Founder Verónica Cabana has created a space where every detail matters: soft lighting, aromatherapy, and a professional team.

The center offers treatments of varying complexity—from Japanese kobido facial massage and hyaluronic acid care to radiofrequency lifting and vitamin biostimulation. All procedures are carried out with explanations and without haste, creating an atmosphere of calm and renewal.

Small islands of tranquility

Keli, Sisi Bagels, and Sapphira offer three different ways to enjoy slow living in Madrid: traditional cuisine, New York-style bagels, and self-care. These places have become oases of calm in the bustling city, allowing you to ease into January and start the year with the right mindset.
