In the city of El Ejido in southern Spain, police carried out a large-scale operation in which a major marijuana cultivation laboratory was dismantled. As a result, one person was detained and more than 1,300 cannabis plants were found on site.
During a search of the two-story house, which had been completely converted for drug production, officers found not only mature plants but also hundreds of young cuttings ready for further cultivation. In the back of the property, inside a structure resembling a greenhouse, investigators counted 1,174 plants at various stages of growth, as well as 135 fresh seedlings.
In addition to the plants, the house contained numerous technical devices necessary to maintain the illegal plantation. Among them were powerful air conditioners, dozens of lamps with ballasts, ventilation systems, irrigation pumps, and even a special water motor pump. All this equipment was seized along with the crop.
Particular attention was drawn to the way the house was connected to the power grid: it had been illegally hooked up to the electricity supply, allowing those involved to use a large amount of energy without payment and creating a danger for the surrounding area.
The detainee, along with all the confiscated substances and equipment, has already been handed over to the El Ejido court of first instance. The operation is part of a broader campaign against illegal drug trafficking in the province of Almería. The investigation is ongoing, and it is possible that new suspects will emerge in the near future.
