On Friday morning, an unexpected incident occurred at the Asamblea de Madrid: during a discussion of the 2026 budget, socialist deputy Juanjo Marcano suddenly began to feel unwell and lost consciousness. This happened at the height of voting on amendments regarding digitization. His fellow party members immediately noticed something was wrong and rushed to assist him.
The situation unfolded rapidly. Not only did members of his own party approach Marcano, but representatives from other political groups with medical training also came to help. Among them were Marta Carmona from Más Madrid, Carlos Moreno Vinués from PSOE, Enrique Ruiz Escudero from Partido Popular, and Raquel Barrero from Vox. Advisors on health and internal affairs—Fátima Matute and Carlos Novillo—also hurried to the scene.
Summa 112 medical teams quickly set up an evacuation area. The deputy was carefully seated in a wheelchair and taken out of the chamber, remaining conscious. The President of the Assembly, Enrique Ossorio, announced a recess to give doctors time to provide the necessary assistance.
A few minutes after the incident, the session resumed. By then, most deputies had returned to their seats and the budget discussion continued. According to preliminary information, the vote is expected to conclude by 2:00 p.m., with the financial plan set to be approved, as the Partido Popular holds the majority and has supported 25 partial amendments.
