Police have arrested a 40-year-old woman in one of the apartment buildings in the La Milagrosa district of Albacete. During the search, officers discovered the apartment had been completely converted into a marijuana grow operation. Inside, they found not only dozens of plants but also a full arsenal of equipment to maintain a controlled microclimate and mask the smell.
The operation was part of a large-scale crackdown on illegal drug trafficking. In November 2025, police received a tip about a possible distribution point and suspicious activity at a local residence. After several weeks of surveillance and gathering evidence, officers decided to carry out a search.
The Search and Discoveries
During the investigation, officers found 74 marijuana plants and 650 grams of dried buds ready for sale. They also discovered six grams of cocaine and several electronic scales used for precise dosing of drugs. One of the rooms had been equipped as a full-scale plantation with artificial lighting, a ventilation system, and air conditioning.
Police noted that an illegal connection to the city power grid had been set up to run all the equipment. Electricity consumption in the apartment was several times higher than normal, which drew the attention of experts. Such schemes are commonly used to hide large-scale home plantations.
Equipment and Concealment
Inside the apartment, powerful lamps, odor filters, and cooling systems had been installed. All equipment was arranged to avoid drawing attention from neighbors. The woman living in the apartment took great care to ensure no smells escaped and kept the windows closed even in the heat.
In addition to plants and finished products, packaging materials and tools for portioning were seized during the search. According to police, the detainee was involved not only in cultivation but also in distributing various types of drugs, using the apartment as both a warehouse and a point of sale.
Next steps
After the search, the woman was taken to the police station for questioning and formal charges. All seized substances and equipment were sent for examination. She is expected to appear in court soon on charges of violating drug laws and illegally connecting to the power grid.
Police are continuing their investigation to identify possible connections between the detainee and other participants in the regional drug trade. More arrests and searches may soon follow in Albacete and the surrounding areas.
